Fantastico is just how the name implies it’s fantastic. It’s one of the more popular 3rd party add-ons that can be purchased and added to cPanel. Fantastico is probable one of the most advanced script installer we’ve ever seen. Currently it can install a large amount and array of scripts, ranging from bulletin boards to content management systems.


One of the key features to Fantastico is how easy it makes installing programs and scripts. Simply by selecting a program or script to install and offering a small amount of information for each, a user can have a program or script installed within a matter of minutes and sense the system is designed to update these programs with the newest version on a regular basis, users can be assured they are getting the latest stable version of the software and that it’s installed correctly and properly.

There are a few options users can change and use for the actual program. These can be found at the bottom of the page under Extras.

Language – This option is used to change the default language set by the ~bad word~ of the server.

Side Menu Appearance – This option can be used the change the side menu appearance.

Full List – The full list option is normally set as the default and is used to list all the programs that can be installed and used in one long list categorized by the type of program each are.

Drop down menus – The drop down menu option is used to list the three main categories, Navigation, Scripts and Extras. This will display each main category as a drop down menu users can select from and then select go. This is useful for users with a slower connection and do not want to load a large amount of information at once.

Email Notification – Users can submit their email address in this section and the system will email them when a new script or program has been installed, modified, or even updated. If it’s been updated it will inform the user so they can login to the system and update the scripts that are currently installed to the newest versions.

Installations Overview – This section will display the current scripts or programs that are installed, there location and version number.

Navigation – This menu has two links, one for the cPanel home page for that account and one for the Fantastico home page for that account. These are normally located at the top of the page.

The next few categories are those for the scripts. Each one of these scripts do different things and function in different ways. We’ll go down the line starting with the first and give the description given in Fantastico about the program.

Network Security Toolkit (NST) v1.5.0



Network Security Toolkit (NST) is a bootable ISO image (Live CD) based on Fedora Core 5 using the Linux Kernel 2.6.18-1.2257.fc5 providing easy access to best-of-breed Open Source Network Security Applications and should run on most x86 platforms. NST can also be used for crash recovery.

The main intent of developing this toolkit was to provide the network security administrator with a comprehensive set of Open Source Network Security Tools. The majority of tools published in the article: Top 100 Security Tools by insecure.org are available in the toolkit.

What we find rather fascinating with NST is that we can transform most x86 systems (Pentium II and above) into a system designed for network traffic analysis, intrusion detection, network packet generation, wireless network monitoring, a virtual system service server, or a sophisticated network/host scanner. This can all be done without disturbing or modifying any underlying sub-system disk. NST can be up and running on a typical x86 notebook in less than a minute by just rebooting with the NST ISO CD. The notebook's hard disk will not be altered in any way.

NST also makes an excellent tool to help one with all sorts of crash recovery troubleshooting scenarios and situations.

Knoppix v5.1.0 - Final



KNOPPIX is a bootable Live system on CD or DVD, consisting of a representative collection of GNU/Linux software, automatic hardware detection, and support for many graphics cards, sound cards, SCSI and USB devices and other peripherals. KNOPPIX can be used as a productive Linux system for the desktop, educational CD, rescue system, or adapted and used as a platform for commercial software product demos. It is not necessary to install anything on a hard disk. Due to on-the-fly decompression, the CD can have up to 2 GB of executable software installed on it (over 8GB on the DVD "Maxi" edition).

Finally, it's done. Just in the past couple of months, there has been quite a lot of new and exciting development in the GNU/Linux world, which of course should also be present in the current Knoppix version. Even that some of the new and optional features (like the 3d-desktop beryl) are still in experimental stage. Repeatedly, new Kernel-/KDE-/OpenOffice releases have spoilt our planned release dates, but on the other hand, now all these are available in the new release as well (2GB of software on CD, 10GB on DVD).

A EDP-Energias de Portugal acordou comprar à Suzlon Wind Energy 190 turbinas eólicas, correspondentes a uma capacidade de 400 megawatts (MW), para projectos da subsidiária da eléctrica Horizon Wind, anunciou a EDP.

A energética adianta que as turbinas serão fornecidas ao longo de 2008 e 2009, sendo utilizadas nos projectos da Horizon na costa Noroeste do Pacífico em 2008 e no Centro Oeste em 2009.
   
O montante envolvido neste contrato não foi divulgado.
   
"Este acordo vem reforçar ainda mais a capacidade de realização do ambicioso plano que a EDP se propõe fazer nos próximos anos e ficam praticamente fechadas as nossas necessidades de aerogeradores até ao final de 2009", referiu António Mexia, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) da EDP, citado pela agência Reuters.
   
A EDP prevê um 'capex' de 6,2 mil milhões de euros (M€) na energia eólica entre 2007 e 2010, ano em que as renováveis deverão representar 28% do 'mix' de produção, face aos actuais sete por cento.
